Week Two Washed Out

Updated 4 June 2008

For the first time in Guernsey Touch’s four-year history, rain has stopped play – twice in one week.

Having rearranged last Wednesday’s week two games for Monday night, organisers of the Ernst & Young Summer League were forced to cancel the fixtures after Saints closed their water-logged fields.

‘Unfortunately weather is the one thing that we can not control and we had to reluctantly take the decision to simply cancel all of the week two games which ensures that none of the teams have been disadvantaged. We can only hope that the rest of the Summer League has some sunshine,’ said Guernsey Touch chairman Andrew Hutton.

With just four games now determining which league the mixed and men’s teams move into for the second half of the season, there was everything to play for in Wednesday’s week three games. None of the 18 fixtures in the mixed, mens and women’s pools ended in a draw and so it is try difference which separates the teams in the top half of the pools.

In Mixed 1 the positions of all six teams remain unchanged with Argyll Investment holding onto the lead by just one try after their 7 – 1 win over PwC Mixed which gives them six points. With a try difference of 11, Brotown are in second after a 6 – 0 win over Panthers Mixed and Ogier Mixed are in third after an 8 – 0 win over Lloyds Touch Spring Box.

In Mixed 2, it’s also a try difference of just one which separates Mercator and CISX Untouchables. Mercator welcomed back Aaron Le Masurier who helped them to retain the top spot with a 7 – 0 win over Ozanne’s One Touch team. CISX Untouchables hold onto second with a 10 – 0 win over Healthspan who battled hard against the strengths of some of Guernsey’s 1st XI rugby stars. Specsavers Squirrels retain third place on try difference despite their 1 – 3 loss to Partners Group who are in fourth.

Source Sorcerers retain their lead in Mixed 3 and have yet to concede a try after a 7 – 0 win over Martel-Dunn Recruits. Specsavers Sharks are second on try difference after their game against Deloitte and Touch ended with an impressive 11 -1 victory. Generali move into third after a 4 – 2 win over Cool As Day.

CISX Anzacs move to the top of Mens 1 after a 9 – 2 win over Ogier Men with Specsavers Stags moving to second place on try difference after their 6 – 3 win over Deloitte and Touch. A passionate game between Leftabels and TBC finished with an 8 – 0 win for Leftabels who are in third place.

Clubhouse Casuals have a try difference of seven over second place Green Armee in Mens 2 with both teams on six points after two wins. Clubhouse Casuals beat Martel-Dunn Recruits 8 – 2 and Green Armee scraped a 1 – 0 win over Bobs Cycleworld who have renamed themselves Resolution IT after their sponsor. Panthers Mens and PWC Mens had a close fought game with PwC Mens taking a 4 – 3 win to take fourth place.

In the only women’s league the experienced teams hold onto their first and second places but the newer teams showed a significant improvement on their week one performance. Touchy Feely lead the league after a 3 – 0 win over Martel-Dunn Recruits and last year’s winners GPG/A Women’s Touch are in second after a 5 -1 win over CISX Untouchables. Specsavers Sirens move into third after a 4 – 1 win over Ozanne’s Girls Aloud team thanks to captain Lindsay De Sausmarez taking advantage of two penalties.
